Ambassador of Venezuela to the United States
?The Search for A New Direction in Venezuela:
Participatory Democracy, Integration, and Oil?
Since 1998, Venezuela has undergone a series of dramatic political, economic, and social changes. President Hugo Chavez has looked to lead Venezuela down a new path that increases democratic participation, grows the economy, and bridges the social chasm that exists between rich and poor.
How did this process of change begin? Has it been successful? What have been the challenges? What is left to be done? Ambassador Bernardo Alvarez will discuss contemporary Venezuela and participate in a conversation on Venezuela, President Chavez, relations with the United States, and how Venezuela seeks a new direction for democracy and development.
