The Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela condemns the interventionist and arrogant statements by the President of the United States of America Barack Hussein Obama, which ignores the legitimate and constitutional government of Venezuela.
Explicitly ignoring the government elected by the people of Venezuela violates basic norms and principles of international law and the United Nations Charter, including the principle of non-interference in internal affairs, the principle of self-determination and sovereign equality of States.
The Venezuelan democratic system, enshrined in the Constitution of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela, provides guarantees for the direct exercise of popular will and power as no other country does. Civil and political rights of Venezuelans are fully guaranteed in this sacred land of Liberators.
Can the President of the United States of America say with certainty that in his country the right to democracy is guaranteed when its legitimacy comes from a diffuse voting system in second grade elections, where small groups of citizens express themselves represented in electoral colleges? The political system in the United States is deeply elitist, based on the ability of corporate capital to influence and replace the will of the people. It is the military, financial and media industries who in an omnipotent and institutional way rule in the United States.
The Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela rejects the statements of the US President because they constitute an absolute interference in the political life of our country, openly encouraging violent factions to overthrow the constitutional and legitimate government of President Nicolas Maduro.
Our Liberator had already warned more than two centuries ago of the predatory American system role in the life of our region. Today and always we repeat from the anti-imperialist soul of our people that there is no possible force that diminishes the freedom and independence of Venezuela.
With our Liberator Simon Bolivar in a letter to Mr. Irvine on October 7, 1818, we respond to President Obama: "It seems that you attempt to force me to reciprocate insults: I will not, but I must protest that I will not allow this outrage or contempt for the Government and the rights of Venezuela. Defending ourselves against Spain has disappeared a large part of our population and the rest remains eager to deserve the same fate. For Venezuela it’s the same to fight against Spain that against the whole world, if the whole world offends it".
The Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela calls on its people to hold high the anti-imperialist flags to defeat the American historical arrogance, in defense of self-determination, independence and peace of our country.
“THE LOVE FOR OUR HOMELAND WILL WIN”. Simon Bolivar
