Venezuelan President arrives in Algeria to finalize tour of OPEC nations

President Maduro met with Algeria’s Prime Minister and head of Parliament

The President of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela, Nicolás Maduro Moros, arrived Monday in Algiers, the capital of the People’s Democratic Republic of Algeria, as part of his tour of member nations of the Organization of the Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC).
On Tuesday, President Maduro held meetings with Abdelmalek Sellal, Prime Minister of Algeria, and with Larbi Ould Khelifa, President of the People’s National Assembly.
Jacqueline Faría, Minister of Communication and Information, announced the meetings through her @jacquelinePSUV twitter account, where she also posted photographs of the encounters.
“Work meetings continue to strengthen ties and cooperation between the Republic of Algeria and the Venezuelan people,” she tweeted in reference to the President’s agenda in Algeria.
President Maduro is also expected to meet with President Abdelaziz Buteflika to review the bilateral agenda between the two countries.
The Venezuelan President’s tour of OPEC countries is aimed at finding a strategy to strengthen the oil market and help it recover, given that it has been harmed by overproduction in the United States through fracking and other controversial means.
On his tour, Maduro has made agreements with Iran, Qatar and Saudi Arabia in order to face this situation in the oil market and return to a fair price for the product.
