State-owned oil company PDSVA is constructing the final segment of pipe laying for the 36 inch Dragon-Cigma pipeline that will transport natural gas from offshore wells to the Domestic Market Gas Conditioning Plant (PAGMI, by its Spanish-language acronym) located in Guiria, which is in the northeastern state of Sucre.
Jimmy Arenas, head of offshore construction, indicated that “after finishing the installation of 36.13 kilometers of tubing in the Paria Gulf section, the Castoro 7 semi-submergible barge moved with its support fleet to the northern coast of Los Obispos Isthmus, where it conducted operation or the laying and stretching of pipes.”
Following technical exams, the welded pipes were carefully transferred through non-destructive methods.
Arenas noted that PDVSA, through the Offshore Executive Board, is progressing in its work to comply with the third objective of the National Plan, a set of policy proposals that is the legacy of Commander Hugo Chávez and is being carried out by President Nicolás Maduro in order to transform the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela into a global power in natural gas.
