The President of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela, Nicolás Maduro Moros, on behalf of the Venezuelan people and government, categorically rejects statements made by United States Vice President Joe Biden. These statements constitute a disrespect for Venezuelan sovereignty and a direct aggression to a people that has suffered attacks from a fascist sector which has adopted a strategy of a continuing coup d’état.
These violent sectors, sponsored by the most radical element of Venezuela’s right-wing, are the confessed parties behind calls for destabilization. They receive financing from government agencies in the United States to threaten the peace of the Venezuelan people and injure a sound democracy that has received popular backing in 18 elections over the past 15 years.
The U.S. government has also joined an international media conspiracy that aims to portray a false image of war and generalized repression through Venezuelan territory, when in reality it is about isolated pockets created by the perpetrators of violence against the people.
In declarations to a Chilean outlet, the U.S. Vice President expresses his alleged concern regarding actions by state security forces in containing violent right-wing splinter groups. This makes us question what the President of the United States, Barack Obama, would do if a political organization publicly called for his overthrow and began carrying out terrorist actions that are an affront to the human and civil rights of the people of the United States.
The Venezuelan government is firmly convinced that if security agencies dealt with these destabilizing elements with the same amount of force that the U.S. police apply, the number of fatalities and injuries would be incalculable. Nevertheless, respect for life, the progressive and discriminate use of force, and a commitment to peace are values central to the majority of men and women who safeguard public order in Venezuela on a daily basis.
In the interim, while these splinter groups foster violence, the President of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela, Nicolás Maduro, has made a pluralist call for peace to all parties in the country to incorporate them into a Peace Conference that has featured the widespread participation of businessmen, churches, organizations for people’s power and the most diverse social movements that exist in the nation, with the aim of isolating the fascists that the U.S. government defends, finances and supports.
The U.S. government is one again isolating itself in the hemisphere and attempts to revive Monroe-ism in the region in the face of its resounding defeat recently suffered in the Organization of American States (OAS), which affirmed the support that Latin America and the Caribbean have given Venezuela in recognition of the legacy of integrationism and sovereignty left by the leader of the Bolivarian Revolution, Hugo Chávez.
The government of the United States, the main promoter of global violence, an expert in invasions, economic blockades, wars started for economic reasons under the pretext of fictitious threats, creator of lethal weapons of mass destruction and responsible for the deaths of thousands of civilians around the world, does not have the moral authority to refute the respect for human rights in Venezuela and Bolivarian Government efforts to preserve peace in our nation.
Nevertheless, the Venezuelan government reiterates the clear will to resume and renew relations with the government of the United States of America through a direct and transparent dialogue, based on mutual respect, non-interference in domestic affairs and necessary cooperation, for which a new ambassador has been designated.
The people of Bolívar, the people of Chávez, with their historic achievements, will always fight to maintain their independence.
Venezuela must be respected!
Chávez lives, the nation persists!
