Nicolás Maduro, President of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela, announced on Saturday that 9,050 pensioners were incorporated into the Venezuelan Institute for Social Security (IVSS).
“The list of the new pensioners has been made public. Congratulations to them all! We’re on our way to 3 million [pensioners]! Long live socialism! Long live Chávez!” the President tweeted from his @NicolasMaduro account.
Visitors to the IVSS website at nuevospensionados.ivss.gob.ve must input their identification card number and date of birth in order to check on their status as a pensioner.
People who have received that status must go to the designated bank in order to open an account where monthly deposits will be made.
With the addition of these new pensioners, Venezuela’s social security system currently provides benefits to over 2.5 million retirees who receive a monthly stipend equal to the minimum wage of 2,973 bolivars.
