A letter in favor of peace in Syria written by Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro to U.S. President Barack Obama was delivered Monday to the White House, Foreign Minister Elías Jaua confirmed.
In an interview Monday night on the program Contragolpe, Jaua said the document was given to the White House by the chargé d’affaires of the Venezuelan Embassy to the U.S., Calixto Ortega.
“The letter arrived. It has been delivered to the White House with acknowledgement of receipt,” he said.
The letter makes an appeal in the name of the people of the liberator, Simón Bolívar, and Commander Hugo Chávez, to defend the cause of peace and calls for a reflection on “the unjust, terrible and terrifying possibility of a U.S. military intervention against the people of Syria.”
