Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro received Maestro José Antonio Abreu at the presidential palace on Tuesday evening as part of a meeting to strengthen national cultural programming.
After the meeting, Abreu said that a basic agenda was set for the Simón Bolívar Music Program.
“With this project, we are going to strengthen the System of Youth and Children’s Orchestras and Choirs,” he said.
The project will reach millions of children by providing instruments and orchestras as well as new spaces for culture and music.
Communications Minister Ernesto Villegas announced that Maestro Abreu and the members of the orchestras will be incorporated into the government’s “Movement for Peace and Life,” a program to combat crime.
“As a musical power today Venezuela will incorporate more than 400,000 boys and girls. This is within the Plan of the nation…. The System of Orchestras and all cultural producers can count on the support of the Bolivarian government,” Villegas said.
