According to Tania D’Amelio, the rector of Venezuela’s National Electoral Council (CNE), electoral information fairs will be carried out before the regional elections this December 16 in which 23 state governors and 233 members of Legislative Councils will be chosen.
D’Amelio spoke in a televised interview in which she indicated that some states will have more than two ballots because both legislators and governors will be chosen. She added that there will be no simulated vote like the one that occurred before the presidential election.
However, the CNE rector said she believes the Venezuela people are sufficiently familiar with the act of voting, and that there should be no difficulties.
The regional elections in December will use the same electoral registry already audited by political party representatives. This time, Venezuelans living abroad and in the Capital District will not be voting.
D’Amelio recalled that candidates for governor and legislative councils must register by this Friday, October 12, and campaigning begins the first of November.
