The President of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela Hugo Chávez said Tuesday that he will soon undergo surgery to remove a small lesion detected on Saturday in the same place where he had a cancerous tumor removed last year.
President Chávez said that the diagnosis was made in Cuba during the routine medical tests he receives every four months.
The Venezuelan leader rejected rumors about his health being spread on social networking sites and some media outlets, such as the claim that his cancer had metastasized.
“I am in excellent physical shape to confront this battle,” he said.
