On behalf of the Venezuelan people and government, the President of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela, Hugo Chávez, extends his warmest congratulations to Dilma Rousseff, whom the people have elected as first female President of the Federative Republic of Brazil after a historic democratic day.
Dilma Rousseff’s victory is the result of an extraordinary mobilization of popular forces of Brazil, which, along with its unions, social movements, students, intellectuals, and artists, has confirmed its willingness to continue walking the path of development and social progress opened by President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva.
Hand in hand with our brother President Lula, Dilma Rousseff has contributed to the transformation of Brazil into a country with greater opportunities for everybody; access to health, education and housing; and a comprehensive and fundamental motor of the great wave of justice and equality that runs through our Americas.
The resounding and overwhelming triumph of Dilma Rousseff is the best guarantee that Brazil will continue to transform and come closer together every day to the fraternal nations of the continent. In recent years, Brazil and Venezuela have begun to really know each other by weaving strong bonds of friendship, solidarity and cooperation in large projects in industry, food, science, technology, and energy development, among others. In this new stage in both nations, the leadership of President Dilma Rousseff will be a factor to deepen the bond of fraternity between Venezuela and Brazil.
The victory of President Dilma Rousseff also guarantees that the process of the union of the peoples in our region, a founding mandate of our liberators, will continue to consolidate in initiatives such as MERCOSUR, UNASUR and the Community of Latin American and Caribbean States.
From the lands of Liberator Simón Bolívar, I send hugs and congratulations to the people of Brazil, with our fervent belief that we will build, now together with President Dilma Rousseff, a common present of welfare and happiness.
I confirm my full willingness to walk alongside Brazil, now with President Dilma Rousseff, to continue building the new increasingly independent and united South America.
Long live the Brazilian people!
Long live President Lula!
Long live President Dilma Rousseff!
Hugo Chávez Frías
President of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela
