Venezuela Ranks Second in Access to Higher Education

Venezuela ranks second in Latin America and the Caribbean, after Cuba, in access to higher education, with 87 percent enrollment, informed the minister of People’s Power for University Education, Edgardo Ramírez, on June 14.

Furthermore, Ramírez said that Mission Sucre, a program created by the Venezuelan government to guarantee free access to higher education, currently includes 577,321 students enrolled in 1,643 university centers throughout the country.

The degrees offered by Mission Sucre are physical activity and health, plastic arts, communications, civil construction, law, integral design, electricity, electronics, nursing, systems and informatics, aquatic transportation, legal studies, teaching, geology, mining, environmental management, social management for local development, hydrocarbons, information and documentation, community integral medicine, chemical mechanics, technology of food production and tourism.

These degrees will be certified by the Bolivarian University of Venezuela (UBV), the Experimental National University of Arts (Uneartes), among other prestigious higher education institutions in the country.

More that 100,000 new students are expected to be enrolled for the second period of 2010.
