The Director of Demand Reduction of the Venezuela’s National Anti-Drug Office (ONA), Rafael Sánchez, said that in 2013 there will be five million people trained to cooperate with the ONA in the fight against drug trafficking.
The Venezuelan official said that the ONA also promotes a drug prevention program in schools called "Sembrando Valores para la Vida" (Sowing Values for Life), which has been supported by Venezuela's community councils. Currently the ONA is also training teachers to promote drug-use prevention.
Sánchez ratified that the United States is the biggest drug consumer, with more than 56 million drug addicts, and remarked that in Venezuela there are less than one million drug users.
According to the Venezuelan official, a national drug treatment and rehabilitation system will be launched to give medical treatment to drug users.
