The President of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela, Hugo Chavez, met yesterday evening at the Miraflores Palace with American writer and linguist, Noam Chomsky.
In his welcome speech, the President highlighted that “His ideas are a milestone for us in the world that fights against the imperial hegemony and the capitalist model.”
“With enormous joy, we welcome Chomsky and open Venezuela’s doors to him. Feel at home, distinguished man of this world” he added.
Chomsky also expressed that “Talking about peace, in a way, is easy; the hard part is creating a new world, a different world. The exciting thing about this particular case is seeing how Venezuela is building that other possible world, and to meet one of the men who has inspired this situation”.
Accompanying Chomsky, are economist Michael Albert and writer Gregory Wilpert. They gave a press conference yesterday morning to the media and the general public in the Teatro Teresa Carreño, in Caracas.
The delegation of academics met with the President in the Council of Ministers Room. Also present at the event were the Minister of People’s Power for Foreign Affairs, Nicolás Maduros, the Minister of People’s Power for Energy and Oil, Rafael Ramírez, and the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs for Asia and Oceania, Temir Porras.
