The president of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela, Hugo Chavez, considered very timely the proposal presented by the Brazilian President, Luiz Inacio Lula Da Silva requesting a meeting between the “Union of South American Nations” (Unasur) and the President of the United States, Barak Obama in order to discuss the relationships in the region.
“Lula’s proposal is very good. He proposed to meet with Obama so he could explain what those military bases are about and what is the interest of the United States’ in them when it was supposed that this country would withdraw the imperial forces. While the United States withdraws from Iraq, they come here with their fourth infantry, and now with seven military bases in Colombia”, he highlighted during the 337th edition of his show “Aló Presidente” which was recorded live in Paraguaná, Falcón state, where he inaugurated the second unite of the Josefa Camejo thermoelectric plant.
The Venezuelan President added that the use of these bases by the U.S. military corps constitute “giving up everything, the dignity of a country”.
He indicated that confronted with this threat, it is necessary to hasten the consolidation of the South American integration. “Unity will set us free”, expressed the Venezuelan President.
