Bolivarian National Guard Forces (GNB) seized one thousand and 129 kilograms (more than one ton) of presumed cocaine this Sunday in the city of Puerto Cabello, in Carabobo state (central northern region of Venezuela.)
The announcement was made by the Minister of People’s Power for Interior and Justice, Tareck El Aissami, in a telephone interview with Venezolana de Television.
As a result of this operation, 43 people were successfully apprehended. The arrest of another group is expected within the next few hours.
With this most recent seizure, the amount of drugs confiscated so far this year has reached 31 tons, said El Aissami.
Based on suspicion of this organization’s connection with other criminal groups that operate in the national territory, and according to El Aissami, the investigation will be intensified in response to this case.
Nevertheless, the Minister announced that according to the preliminary information provided by the National Anti-drug Office (ONA), this organization is presumed to have ties to drug cartels in Mexico.
