At the moment in which we are working to improve relations with the government of the United States, the Secretary of State, Hillary Rodham Clinton, repeats the old practice of giving prescriptions and making value judgments about Venezuela’s democracy and our sovereign relations with other nations.
The insinuations made by the Secretary of State reflect a profound ignorance of our reality, as well as contempt for the will of the people expressed on numerous occasions within the framework of a genuine participatory democracy.
It is difficult to believe that intentions to rebuild bilateral relations are sincere when faced with unfriendly acts of this character. The opinions expressed yesterday by the Secretary of State constitute a crude and aggressive signal by the government of the United States towards Venezuela, Latin America, and the Caribbean.
The Bolivarian government of Venezuela rejects this disrespectful act and calls for a rectification, for the good of relations between the government of the United States and the Bolivarian Government of Venezuela.
