The Embassy of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela in the United States announces the cancellation of our annual reception to commemorate Venezuela’s Independence Day, July 5, 1811.
Traditionally, we commemorate the day with a ceremony at the Simón Bolívar Plaza in Washington DC and a reception at the ambassador's residence.
However, due to the large impact on Latin America of the coup d’etat waged against the constitutional and democratically elected Honduran President, Manuel Zelaya, and the intense diplomatic effort mounted by the Bolivarian Alliance of the Peoples of our Americas (ALBA, in Spanish) and other Latin American integrationist organizations, destined to achieve the restoration of the constitutional and democratic government of Honduras, we are forced to cancel our reception this year planned for July 7th of 2009.
We hope you understand and will join us in the future on other occasions.
