Venezuelan President Hugo Chávez acknowledged the speech made by US President Barack Obama during his recent visit to Cairo University in the Egyptian capital.
During a special edition of Aló Presidente, Chávez commented on Obama’s message to the Muslim world and his reference to nuclear weapons.
“We don’t want nuclear bombs, but we do want what Obama said: to seek a world in which no nation has nuclear weapons. We must acknowledge this. Hopefully we can achieve it,” said Chávez.
He said the message of President Obama must be amplified.
Chávez stated that it would be ideal if all nations with nuclear weapons would eliminate and prohibit them definitively. “It is horrific; it could destroy the whole planet and all life on it. Nuclear energy with a military purpose is insanity; it is death.”
He added that peaceful nuclear energy should be welcomed as it can be used for the electricity that humanity needs for now and the future.
Chávez concluded: “Oil will run out. From now on, we must look for new sources of energy, and perfect it to lower the environmental risks of peaceful nuclear energy.”
