Caracas, May 21 ABN – Unemployment figures reached 7.7% in the month of April, according to the Monthly Report on the Workforce by the National Institute of Statistics (INE).
The president of the Institute, Elias Eljuri, stated that unemployment in Venezuela registered lower in the month of April, since it began to be measured monthly, says the press note.
Employment figures in April of 2009 reached 92.3% (12,065,593 people), which in April of 2008 was 92.1% (11,679,944 people), which reflects an increase of 385,649 people employed.
The employed population in the formal sector was 6,903,034 people, 57.2%, which in comparison with the same month in 2008 (6,469,059 people), which reflects an increase of 433,978 people.
The increase in the Sampling Survey of Households in the month of April 2009 spans 7,693 households and 22,801 people over 15 years of age. The survey was conducted between March of 2009 and April of 2009, as indicated by the summary of the investigation.
The sample distribution was throughout the entire national territory, with the exception of collectivities (hotels, hostels, prisons, hospitals, barracks, and convents among others), localities with fewer than 10 households, federal dependencies, and indigenous communities in remote areas.
