The Minister of People´s Power for Foreign Affairs, Nicolas Maduro Moros, assured that the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela has the capacity to guarantee the security of its borders, and insisted that there is permanent vigilance to prevent the entry of irregular groups coming from Colombia.
“As you all know, for more than 50 years we have suffered from the endemic violence of this armed conflict that has brought around 3 million Colombians into Venezuelan territory; we have confronted this situation, and we will continue confronting it,” he said.
The Minister reiterated that, furthermore, “irregular Colombian forces of all types participate in that conflict and they know that they cannot cross into Venezuelan territory, because they will be confronted with all the force possible by the Venezuelan government and the Bolivarian Armed Forces.”
Minister Maduro made this affirmation upon being questioned by a journalist during the Ministerial Meeting of the Non-Aligned Movement, which was held in Havana, Cuba.
Maduro affirmed that “the international community knows very well that the bordering countries, sadly, in this case Venezuela, have suffered during 50 long years of an armed process that does not belong to us. We have made a great effort and we maintain it to ensure that the Venezuelan border would be each time more secure, a more stable territory,” he emphasized.
