Minister Le?n: Bolivarian government vindicates equal rights of women

During the past ten years the government has vindicated, based on the principles of gender equality, the rights of women within Venezuelan society, said María León, State Minister for Women’s Affairs, on Friday.

“International Women’s Day had never before had such impact in Venezuela as it has within the Bolivarian process.   Now women have important roles in the context of ideology and in the development of the country,” she emphasized.

During an appearance on ‘Desperó Venezuela’, a program broadcast by Venezolana de Televisión, León indicated that woman have reached the respect and value they deserve within the progress and development of humanity during the past years.

On a related topic, the Vice President of the United Socialist Party of Venezuela (PSUV) of Amazonas state, Ana Elisa Osorio, noted that in her opinion, the position of women has evolved within Venezuelan society because President Hugo Chávez has highlighted their important role in the country’s success.

“Venezuelan women are recognized today within Venezuelan political spaces.  Furthermore, they are participating under equal conditions in political and social organizations; more irrefutable proof of this is that women who were once marginalized are now protagonists in the collective Bolivarian government,” Osorio explained.

In this sense, she emphasized that the intellectual capacity of women has been supported in diverse areas, and therefore they will participate even more in society in the future.

“Women are continually more involved in every professional activity and within the administration of President Chávez.  We should be proud to have a Head of State who has declared himself the foremost feminist and fighter for women’s rights,” she expressed.

International Women’s Day will take place on March 8th and is recognized by the United Nations.  During this day, the fight of women for equal rights in society and in their comprehensive development as people will be commemorated.
