Statement - Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela

(Translation)

The President of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela, Hugo Chávez Frías, within the framework of the beginning of this third historic cycle of the revolutionary process, based on constitutional postulates  and the principles of organization and functioning established in the Decree for the Organic Law of Public Administration, which allow administrative structures to be adapted to the public policies developed by the Executive Branch, agreed in the Ministerial Council to reorganize and appoint people to the following institutions:

1.  The Ministry of People’s power for Science and Technology will henceforth be called the Ministry of People’s Power for Science, Technology and Medium Industry, and is now assigned responsibilities relating to industrial development previously belonging to the Ministry of People’s Power for Light Industries and Commerce.

2.  The Ministry of People’s Power for Light Industry and Commerce becomes the Ministry of People’s Power for Commerce.

3.  The Ministry of People’s Power for Infrastructure will henceforth be called the Ministry of People’s Power for Public Works and Housing, and is now assigned the responsibilities of the Ministry of People’s Power for Housing, which will cease to exist.

4.  The Ministry of People’s Power for Health will henceforth be called the Ministry of People’s Power for Health and Social Welfare, and is now assigned responsibilities relating to social welfare and protection previously belonging to the Ministry of People’s Power for Participation and Social Welfare, which will cease to exist.

5.  The Ministry of People’s Power for the Communal Economy will henceforth be called the Ministry of People’s Power for Community Development, and is now assigned responsibilities relating to participation previously belonging to the now defunct Ministry of People’s Power for Participation and Social Welfare.

6.  The Ministers of People’s Power subject to reorganization are the following:

6.1  Eduardo Samán is designated Minister of People’s Power for Commerce.

6.2  Jesús María Mantilla Oliveros is designated Minister of People’s Power for Health and Social Welfare.

6.3  Diosdado Cabello is designated Minister of People’s Power for Public Works and Housing.

6.4  Nuris Orihuela Guevara is designated Minister of People’s Power for Science, Technology and Medium Industry.

6.5  Érika Farías is designated Minister of People’s Power for Community Development.

7.  Maria Cristina Iglesias replaces Roberto Manuel Hernández as Minister of People’s Power for Labor and Social Security.

8.  Pedro Morejón Carrillo replaces Olga Cecilia Azuaje as Minister of People’s Power for Tourism.

9.  The ministries not included in this statement will continue functioning with their respective names and their internal structures will be reviewed in detail to become more efficient. Likewise, their ministers will remain in their posts.

10. The Vice President of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela, Ramón Carrizales Rengifo, will remain in his post and is also designated Minister in Charge of the Ministry of People’s Power for Defense, replacing General in Chief Gustavo Rangel Briceño.

These structural modifications at the beginning of this third historic cycle of the revolutionary process are designed to improve the dynamics of State administration in order to make it more efficient in its management of collective well-being and interest, accentuating ethics as the most important value in the management of public affairs.
