President Ch?vez: Amendment victory belongs to sovereign and independent peoples

The President of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela, Hugo Chávez Frías, expressed that the amendment victory “does not just belong to the Venezuelan people, but to all nations that believe in the independence and sovereignty of peoples.”

President Chávez made this announcement from the Venezuela Hall of the Military Circle of Caracas following the signing of a memorandum of understanding to develop trade and investment between the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela and the People’s Republic of China.

The President emphasized that the victory of the Venezuelan people in the constitutional amendment deepens the socialist model of development in the country.

He also dedicated “to all of China, the 1.3 billion Chinese citizens, the triumph of the Venezuelan people in the referendum for a constitutional amendment.”

At the signing, President Chávez thanked representatives of the Chinese government for “the great effort they made to visit us” and for signing this new accord that will benefit and give mutual support to both nations.

Referring to this, the President said: “I am conscious of the enormous importance this strategic relation between China and Venezuela has for the comprehensive development of our peoples.”

He also added that on Tuesday afternoon he received calls from various world leaders who sent their congratulations for the referendum held on February 15th.

Among the Presidents who called to congratulate President Chávez were: Cristina Fernández of Argentina; Rafael Correa of Ecuador; Evo Morales of Bolivia; Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva of Brazil; Álvaro Uribe of Colombia; and Fernando Lugo of Paraguay.
