According to a world averages, Venezuela has the highest voter turnout on the planet in that its abstention rate is just above 29 percent, said Janeth Hernández, Vice President of the National Electoral Council (CNE).
During an appearance on Despertó Venezuela, a program broadcast by Venezolana de Televisión, Hernández indicated that the world average for participation in elections was 40%, while in Venezuela turnout is 70%.
She emphasized that Venezuela has a “participatory and protagonical democracy. Only reactionary sectors think that elections wear the people down. Changes in Venezuela are consulted.”
Hernández highlighted the positive perception of elections held in the country. In 1995, a Latinobarómetro poll indicated that 72% of the Venezuelan population thought that elections in the country were fraudulent.
“Today, Venezuela is in second place in terms of positive perceptions of democracy, behind Uruguay,” she stressed.
