The Bolivarian government of President Hugo Chávez celebrates, along with the Venezuelan people, the victory of our brother Evo Morales and the people of Bolivia in the Constitutional Referendum that took place on January 25, 2009.
President Hugo Chávez spoke with President Evo Morales, as soon as the results of the Constitutional Referendum were released, to convey acknowledgement and congratulations from the Venezuelan people for this new victory.
This triumph affirms the path to independence and equality that the people of Bolivia have chosen, and strengthens the efforts of President Evo Morales to spur a peaceful and democratic revolution in the face of those who have attempted to destroy it with conspiracies and violence.
The approval, for the first time in Bolivian history, of a state political Constitution debated, worked on and democratically decided by the people, is an important lesson to those who claim to not understand the democratic revolution which is sweeping our continent that has led to the rebirth of the principles of sovereignty, independence and social justice, which were trampled on for decades.
During their telephone conversation, President Hugo Chávez and Evo Morales agreed to meet as part of the summit of ALBA countries, which will take place in Caracas within a few days, with the goal of encouraging supranational projects that guarantee the economic development and social happiness of our peoples, and realizing the Liberator’s mandate, according to which “the unity of our peoples is not a simple chimera of man, it is an inexorable decree of destiny.”
