Statement in support of the Government of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela:
The Group of 77 and China express their rejection to the recent decision of the Government of the United States to extend its unilateral sanctions against the Government of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela on February 2, 2015.
We reaffirm, at the same time, the Declaration adopted at the Summit of Heads of State and Government of the Group of 77, held in Santa Cruz de la Sierra, which firmly rejects the imposition of laws and regulations with an extraterritorial effect, and all other forms of coercive economic measures, including unilateral sanctions against countries under development.
The Group of 77 and China reiterates the urgent need to repeal all measures taken against Venezuela or any other State, that may undermine the United Nations Charter and international law, in particular the principle of non-intervention.
The Group of 77 and China expresses its solidarity and support to the Venezuelan Government affected by these measures, which in no way contribute to a climate of political and economic dialogue and understanding between the countries. At the same time, we urge the international community to take urgent and effective measures to eliminate the use of unilateral coercive economic measures against any State, especially for developing countries.
