Venezuelan President Hugo Chávez congratulated via twitter the Venezuelan driver Pastor Maldonado, whose victory at the Spanish Grand Prix on Sunday made him the first Venezuelan ever to win a Formula One race.

“I told you so! Our Pastor Maldonado won, making history! Bravo, Pastor! Congratulations to you and all your combative team! We shall overcome!,” the Venezuelan president wrote through his account, @chavezcandanga.

Pastor Maldonado, who belongs to team Williams and is sponsored by the state-owned oil company Petróleos de Venezuela (PDVSA), said that the victory was special for his team and for Latin America and Venezuela.
